The Advanced Helios spectrum is shown above, this spectrograph was taken with a MK350 digital LED spectrometer; a very accurate device designed specifically for reading the spectrum produced by LED lights. There is an overlay showing the relative amount of light adsorbed during photosynthesis by most plants. At first glance the spectrum looks like it could be adjusted to have less red however it has been proven that although the plants often do not adsorb all of the red light in the Helios spectrum, it is required to keep plants growing in a natural way. When the spectrum is adjusted to match the photosynthetic rates of absorption plants tend to grow very short and exhibit vigorous yet stunted bushy growth. This eventually results in the plant literally overgrow during the vegetative phase and then die early during flowering.
The spectrum of light that plants use to fuel photosynthesis is very complex and in truth scientists are still working to unlock the innermost complexities of the interactions between light and photosynthesis. It seems that the more we discover about the effects of different spectrums on plants growth the more questions arise and more data must be collected.
